Mr Leon Bassi

Leon graduated with distinction as both a Dental Therapist and Dental Hygienist from Queen Mary University (Bart’s) and the London Dental School, receiving academic and clinical prizes. Since graduation, Leon has worked within Community and Hospital services as well as Specialist Private practice – Leon also provides treatment under inhalation sedation within the hospital setting and private practice in consultant led services.

Leon has presented scientific Poster presentations at both national and international level. His research interest is using the ICCMS caries prevention tool kit with the primary dentition. Leon has another research interest; child anxiety and the impact of this on sedation services.

Leon is an active member of BSDHT – Leon has previously held the position of London regional rep for BSHDT, elected council member and Elected council member to executive team of the BSDHT. Leon now sits on the publication committee for BSDHT and the newly formed DIB group.

Leon currently splits his time between academia and clinical practice in both the private and hospital setting. He has nurtured strong relationships with industry partners. Leon was recently awarded a research grant to research caries diagnosis awareness amongst dental professionals.

Leon is a external examiner for the Royal college of surgeons and Portsmouth University. Leon has published in peer reviewed journals for the BSDHT. Leon is a visiting lecturer for Health Education England where he provides CPD for dentists and dental therapists.

Dr Cassandra Lewis

Cassandra qualified with honours in 2012 from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry following completion of a first class BSc honours degree in Biological Sciences with Virology at Warwick University in 2008. She has been awarded several clinical and academic prizes and was nominated for the London Gold Medal for Dentistry in 2011.

Following graduation Cassandra completed dental foundation and dental core training in London, rotating through restorative, oral medicine, dental emergency and oral surgery clinics, as well as the Community Dental Services where she worked for four years managing patients with dental phobias, physical, emotional, social or mental disabilities and complex medical histories. As a Dental Officer she provided care under sedation and general anaesthesia, and she continues to provide inhalation sedation for paediatric dental patients with Barts NHS Trust.

She completed training in Cognitive Behavioural Techniques for the Management of Dental Fear in 2016 and was awarded the PGDip with merit in Conscious Sedation for Dentistry from King’s College London in 2017. Following completion of the PGCAP with distinction in 2019, she is continuing her training in higher education at Dundee University (MMEd).
