Objectives
  • Explain the relative risks of modern dental imaging included CBCT and the radiation dose to patients.
  • Describe the indications for CBCT and the role in diagnosis, treatment planning and consent.
  • Develop a reporting template and put this to the test in an interactive spotter.
  • Understand the regulatory requirements under IRMER and how to comply with these.

Speakers

Simon Harvey

Simon is a Consultant and GDC registered specialist in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology. He is responsible for delivery of specialist diagnostic and interventional radiology services within a multidisciplinary team at Queen Victoria Hospital and Eastman Dental Hospital. His subspecialty interests include interventional salivary radiology and dentoalveolar CBCT. He is co-author of a book about CBCT and published in several peer reviewed journals.

He has been employed in higher education for over a decade, and currently teaches postgraduate dental students at the Eastman Dental Institute. In addition, he is a clinical supervisor to both FRCR and DDMFR registrars and provide CPD to dental professionals for the UK’s leading providers.

He has a Masters degree in Medical Ethics and Law from the KCL School of Law and in 2018 took up a seat on The DDU Dental Advisory Committee. He also accepts instruction as an independent expert witness.
