Mouth Cancer Awareness Day and Update
Start 0800 prompt. GID Hygienists, GID Managers and GID members are covered by their subs. GID Nurses will pay £10.00/head. This to be collected via their group officers and not via the website. Please ignore any prompt to pay, this will be disappearing soon.
The website is currently being improved and updated. If you see any blatant errors please let me know. The joining instructions under sign up tab will be corrected in the next few days. The jobs section should now have the latest job first and there will be a drop off after 3 months. This free to use for members.
Again a reminder to register for courses and please inform me if you are unable to attend. The numbers attending these courses are large and the costs are commensurate with that so accuracy will keep waste and costs down.
The Anterior Composites Hands on Course is filling up, you have to pay £150.00 to confirm your place. Those who haven't paid cannot be guaranteed a place.
Doug Thomson has decided not to travel to the UK because of the coronovirus outbreak. His primary concern is that the USA border force may insist on him self isolating for two weeks on his return which would badly affect his committments in the USA. Therefore he is presenting the day via live video link to the Gold Cup Suite. It's another first for GID, a new technological experience and I'm looking forward to it. GID cannot cancel the event at this late stage so the event will run exactlu as usual except Doug won't be in the room....
A perfect Autumnal day. Approx 200 people walked the course, 2 ran. Fiona Fullerton started the day with aplomb. Photographers from the Echo and Cotswold Life did their bit. The Echo published an account of the day with accompanying snaps on Monday Oct 13th. We raised just under £3k on the day, a tremendous achievement and thanks to all of you who contributed.
The day itself was hugely successful with a unique blend of theory, practical and all brought to life with the moving accounts of people and families who have lived through oral cancer and survived. I thought every aspect of the day was illuminating and quite emotional at times. There were over 300 GID members at the event, I feel sorry for those who did not attend as they missed a real experience.
The next GID study day is on April 27th and is the last meeting before the summer recess. The newly designed certificates that are compliant with the current GDC requirements will be in force by then. It has taken rather longer to produce than hoped for but we needed to get it right.
